About Us
(The following article appeared in The Daily
Herald and was written by Celeste Blackburn. It is the story of Holland's
Pharmacy.)
The Holland family will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary
in the local pharmacy business by opening two new stores.
The first store located at 121 Nashville Highway will open June
14th. soon after, construction will begin on a new location in Spring Hill.
With two stores in Lawrenceburg and two more already in business
in Columbia, by the end of the year there will be six Holland's Pharmacies
serving the southern Middle Tennessee area.
The franchise was started in 1964 when twin brothers Walter and
Floyd Holland went into business together, buying a small drug store in
Lawrenceburg.
Walter, a pharmacist , who graduated from the University of
Kentucky in 1960, left his Bowling Green home to run the store. In 1968 he
opened the first Columbia store. Floyd, and engineer for Phillips 66, did not
move to Lawrenceburg but joined Walter as a partner. After retiring from
Phillips 66 in May of 2002, Floyd moved from Texas to Columbia to help his
brother run their stores.
The brothers had some idea what they would be getting into
because their father, an uncle and an older brother were all pharmacists.
What they learned was that maintaining good customer services and
relations would be key to the success of their businesses, they say.
Both say their stores emphasize filling prescriptions as quickly
as possible while still taking the time to talk with the customers, getting to
know them and explaining interactions and side effects of their medicines. The brothers say their prices are also very competitive.
